TL;DR

Google’s AI Mode is a different animal from AI Overviews. Instead of a summary bolted on top of the blue links, it’s a full conversational tab: it breaks your question into several sub-queries, pulls from a wider set of sources, and answers with follow-ups in mind. A brand that shows up reliably in AI Overviews can be completely absent from AI Mode, and vice versa.

That’s the first thing to understand when you’re shopping for AI Mode tracking tools: “tracks Google AI” is not the same as “tracks AI Mode.” Several vendors use vague labels, and a couple only cover AI Mode on their most expensive tier. So I’ve checked every tool below against its own pricing page or help docs, and I only include tools where AI Mode support is stated explicitly.

Beyond that, four things matter most when choosing:

  • What the tool measures inside AI Mode. Mentions are table stakes. You also want citations (is your page a source?), position, sentiment, and competitor share of voice.
  • How usage is counted. Some tools sell tracked prompts, some sell responses or credits, some sell “checks.” These are not interchangeable, and I’ll untangle them as we go.
  • Whether AI Mode costs extra. It’s an add-on at Otterly, one of three model slots at Peec, and Enterprise-only at Profound.
  • Country and frequency control. AI Mode answers vary by region, and daily tracking of every prompt on every model gets expensive fast.

Here’s the short version, followed by a closer look at each tool.

Rankshift

Rankshift pros:

  • AI Mode, AI Overviews, ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Perplexity, Copilot, Meta AI and Mistral on every plan, no per-model fees
  • Unlimited projects and unlimited seats
  • Daily or weekly scheduling per prompt keeps credit spend under control
  • Crawler analytics, citation gap analysis, Action Center and ChatGPT ads tracking on top of visibility data

Rankshift cons:

  • Credit-based model needs a bit of planning
  • MCP, API, crawler analytics and Looker Studio integration start on the Professional plan

Rankshift is a Belgian AI visibility platform, and it’s the tool I’d point most people at first for AI Mode tracking. The reason is simple: it tracks ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Google AI Overviews, Google AI Mode, Mistral AI, Claude, and Meta AI, and every one of those models is included on every plan. You don’t pick three, you don’t buy an add-on, and you don’t need an Enterprise contract to see AI Mode data. That’s a meaningful difference from Peec, Otterly and Profound, all of which gate or meter Google’s engines in some way.

The other thing Rankshift gets right is flexibility. You can decide how often prompts are checked, from multiple times a day to a few times a week or once a month, and you pick which models each prompt runs on. A prompt set that only matters in AI Mode and ChatGPT doesn’t have to burn credits on seven other engines. Agencies can create multiple workspaces within one subscription, one for each client, and give clients access to their specific workspace. Because seats and projects are unlimited, the per-client economics are better than tools that charge per domain (Semrush) or per workspace (Profound’s agency model).

Inside AI Mode, Rankshift measures brand mentions, citations, sentiment and share of voice, and benchmarks all of that against named competitors. Its citation gap analysis shows where AI systems consistently cite third-party sources over your own content for the same prompts, which is the most useful signal you’ll get for AI Mode specifically, since AI Mode leans heavily on fanned-out queries and third-party sources.

AI crawler analytics track how AI bots interact with your website, a technical layer that Peec and Otterly also offer in some form but most trackers don’t. The Action Center then turns those findings into a prioritized list of recommended actions, so you’re not exporting data to a spreadsheet to figure out what to do next. Rankshift also tracks ChatGPT ads, which matters if you want to see who’s paying to appear in the same answers you’re trying to earn.

The main trade-off is the credit system. Credits are consumed per prompt, per model, per run, so a large prompt set on all nine engines at daily frequency will drain a Starter allowance quickly. The fix is to schedule sensibly, but you do have to think about it in a way you don’t with flat prompt tiers. And per the current plan structure, MCP and API access, crawler analytics and the Looker Studio connector begin on the Professional plan, so Starter is tracking and reporting only.

Rankshift pricing: Paid plans start at about €77 per month on monthly billing with unlimited users and projects; annual billing takes about 10% off. Starter includes 150 prompts per day and 9,500 credits, Professional includes 350 prompts and 22,000 credits, and Business includes 850 prompts and 53,000 credits. Professional is listed at €177 and Business at €399 per month on the pricing page; Enterprise is custom. Every plan tracks all LLMs, including AI Mode, and there’s a 30-day free trial with no card required.

Peec AI

Peec AI pros:

  • Excellent citation and source analytics, including source classification and gap analysis
  • Brand perception scoring, objections tracking and fact-checking of AI claims
  • Unlimited users on every plan; no charge for extra countries or languages

Peec AI cons:

  • Every self-serve plan caps you at three of six models, so AI Mode takes one of those slots
  • Extra models cost more per plan; API access is Enterprise-only
  • Multi-country tracking starts on Pro, Looker Studio on Advanced

Peec AI is a Berlin-based tracker with one of the cleaner interfaces in the category, and it explicitly supports AI Mode. The models available on self-serve plans are ChatGPT, AI Mode, AI Overviews, Microsoft Copilot, Gemini and Naver AI.

The catch is the three-model rule. Starter gives you 50 prompts, a choice of 3 models, unlimited users, daily tracking and 1 project, and Pro and Advanced keep the same “choose 3” limit while raising prompts to 150 and 350. If you want AI Mode plus AI Overviews plus ChatGPT, that’s your three. Add Gemini and you’re paying the per-model add-on. Enterprise unlocks all models, daily or weekly frequency, unlimited projects and API access.

Where Peec earns its money is the analysis layer. The visibility overview tracks your visibility, position, sentiment and share of voice daily against competitors, and the source analytics go deep: every source gets classified into a category such as competitor, editorial, reference or UGC, and gap analysis surfaces sources that appear often and name competitors but not you. Peec also has fanout overview and retrieval reporting, which is directly relevant to AI Mode’s query fan-out behaviour. Data collection is UI-based scraping for the self-serve models, so what you see is close to what a real user sees.

Usage is easy to model: monthly AI answers are calculated by multiplying tracked prompts by active models and tracking frequency, so 50 prompts on 3 models daily is 4,500 answers a month. You can track queries across any supported country or language with no additional cost, though Starter is limited to a single country.

Peec AI pricing: Starter €85/month, Pro €205/month and Advanced €425/month on monthly billing, with a 15% discount for annual billing. Advanced adds multi-country (3 per project), 5 projects and the Looker Studio connector. Enterprise is custom.

Otterly.AI

Otterly.AI pros:

  • Cheapest credible starting point in the category
  • Multi-country support across 65+ countries and unlimited team members on every plan
  • GEO audit, Looker Studio connector, API and MCP on Standard and above

Otterly.AI cons:

  • AI Mode is a paid add-on on every tier
  • Lite’s 15 prompts run out fast; the jump to Standard is steep
  • Extra prompts are sold in blocks of 100

Otterly.AI is the tool most people try first because the entry price is so low, and it does support AI Mode, just not in the base price. Every plan tracks Google AI Overviews, ChatGPT, Perplexity and Microsoft Copilot, with Google AI Mode, Gemini and Claude available as paid add-ons on all plans. Third-party reviews that verified the add-on pricing put Gemini and Google AI Mode at $9 to $149 a month each depending on your plan, which is modest on Lite and much less so on Premium.

For each engine, Otterly reports brand mentions, cited URLs, position changes over time, sentiment and competitor share of voice, and it includes an AI prompt research tool to help you find prompts worth tracking. The country coverage is a real advantage for AI Mode, since Google’s answers vary a lot by market. Otterly’s pricing is prompt-based and tracking runs daily, so 15 prompts on Lite means 15 prompts across whatever engines you’ve enabled.

Otterly.AI pricing: Lite starts at $29/month with 15 search prompts, Standard is $189/month with 100 prompts, and Premium is $489/month with 400 prompts, billed monthly with roughly 15% off annually. Prices display in USD or EUR depending on your location. Standard and Premium let you add batches of 100 extra prompts, and Standard adds 2,000 API and 2,000 MCP requests per month plus the Looker Studio connector.

Rankscale

Rankscale pros:

  • AI Mode, AI Overviews, Gemini, ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, Copilot, DeepSeek, Mistral and Grok on every plan
  • Lowest price for broad engine coverage
  • Scheduling from hourly to monthly, all regions on all plans

Rankscale cons:

  • Credits are weighted by engine, so the pool drains unevenly
  • Essentials’ 120 credits is tight for anything beyond a handful of prompts
  • Team features and Looker Studio start on Pro

Rankscale is the value play. Every plan, including the €20 Essentials tier, includes the full engine list, and that list covers OpenAI ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Mode, AI Overviews and Gemini, DeepSeek, Mistral, Anthropic Claude, xAI Grok and Microsoft Copilot. AI Mode is not an upsell here.

The usage model is credits. Each time Rankscale queries an AI engine on your behalf, it costs a fraction of a credit, typically 0.25 credits per engine per prompt. Essentials credits expire at the end of each month, while Pro credits roll over up to 2x your monthly allowance. So a Pro plan’s 1,200 credits buys up to 4,800 AI responses, which is roughly 160 prompts on one engine daily, or 32 prompts on five engines daily. That’s a very different quantity from “150 prompts,” so compare carefully. If you are running low, switching search terms from daily to weekly or reducing the number of engines per term is the quickest fix.

Rankscale reports citations, sources, sentiment, competitors and query fan-outs, plus page audits and a Scout recommendations feature. It’s a lot of tool for the money. The trade-off is predictability: because some engines cost more credits than others, your effective capacity depends on which engines you enable.

Rankscale pricing: Essentials €20/month (120 credits, up to 480 AI responses, 2 brand dashboards), Pro $99/month with 1,200 credits and up to 4,800 AI responses, Growth $385/month with 5,500 credits and up to 22,000 responses, Enterprise €780/month with 12,000 credits. Monthly billing, with 15% off annual. Prices show in EUR or USD depending on region.

Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit

Semrush pros:

  • AI Mode data sits next to keyword, backlink and traffic data
  • Large prompt database for discovery, not just your own prompts
  • Site audit for AI readiness included

Semrush cons:

  • $99 per domain, billed annually, with 25 prompts
  • Extra domains, seats and prompts all cost more, which hurts agencies
  • Brand Performance reports update weekly, not daily

The Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit is the right answer if you’re already paying for Semrush and want one login. The pricing page just says “Google AI,” which is exactly the vagueness I warned about, but Semrush’s own knowledge base is clearer: Brand Performance tracks and analyzes AI responses across Google AI Overviews, AI Mode, ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini, and the reports automatically update every week.

What you get: AI visibility reports for any domain, 25 custom prompts with daily AI rankings, 1 domain for Brand Performance analysis, AI competitor analysis and prompt research, and a site audit for AI readiness. The prompt research piece is the standout, because it draws on Semrush’s prompt database rather than only the prompts you thought to add.

The limitation is structural. Per-domain pricing is fine for one brand and painful for five, and 25 custom prompts is small compared with the dedicated trackers.

Semrush pricing: $99/month per domain, billed annually. The toolkit is also bundled into Semrush One plans (from $199/month) with higher prompt allowances. Enterprise adds custom large-scale AI prompt tracking, daily or weekly frequency and multi-brand visibility at custom pricing.

SE Ranking (AI Search add-on)

SE Ranking pros:

  • Five engines including AI Mode with transparent per-check pricing
  • Strong agency tooling and white-label reporting in the same platform
  • Add-on includes access to SE Visible for executive-level reporting

SE Ranking cons:

  • Requires a Core plan or higher, so the AI layer is never the whole bill
  • Checks are consumed per engine, so multi-engine coverage divides your allowance
  • Pricing has several moving parts

SE Ranking folds AI tracking into its SEO suite via the AI Search add-on. The add-on extends the AI Results Tracker across AI Overviews, AI Mode, ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini, and it’s the only tool on this list that prices in “checks.”

The important bit: 1 check equals 1 prompt on 1 AI platform, so tracking one prompt across all five supported engines uses five checks. A 200-check package is 40 prompts on all five engines, or 200 prompts on AI Mode alone. Don’t read “200 checks” as 200 prompts. The tracker logs both linked citations and unlinked brand mentions, benchmarks competitors and shows which of your pages get cited.

SE Ranking pricing: The Core plan is $129/month (about $103 on annual billing), and the AI Search add-on costs $89/month for 200 checks, $179 for 450 or $345 for 1,000, with 20% off annually. The add-on is available on Core, Growth and Enterprise plans.

Ahrefs Brand Radar

Ahrefs Brand Radar pros:

  • Enormous index of real prompts, including tens of millions for AI Mode
  • Research any brand or competitor instantly with zero setup
  • YouTube, TikTok and Reddit visibility in the same view

Ahrefs Brand Radar cons:

  • Custom prompt tracking is not available for AI Mode
  • Expensive, and the AI Mode index is bundled with AI Overviews
  • Question sets refresh monthly on a 90-day window, so it’s not daily monitoring

Ahrefs Brand Radar takes a different approach from everything else here. Rather than running your prompts, Ahrefs asks AI platforms millions of real questions collected from Google’s People Also Ask and its keyword database, then saves the answers so you can search where your brand shows up. The AI Mode index alone contains over 40 million monthly prompts, and share of voice is calculated from mentions across ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Copilot, and Google’s AI Overviews and AI Mode.

That makes Brand Radar excellent for answering “how visible are we in AI Mode across our whole category?” and poor for “did our AI Mode visibility on these 40 prompts change this week?” Custom prompt tracking is available for ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Copilot, and AI Mode is not on that list. Question sets are updated and tested monthly, using a 90-day reporting window. If daily AI Mode monitoring of your own prompt set is the goal, this isn’t the tool.

Ahrefs Brand Radar pricing: Brand Radar is a standalone tool available to all free and paid Ahrefs users. Selected platforms cost $398/month; all platforms cost $699/month and include AI Overviews and AI Mode, ChatGPT, Perplexity, Copilot and Gemini plus 2,500 checks per month for custom prompts. Displayed currency varies by region.

Profound

Profound pros:

  • Very deep data layer with Prompt Volumes showing real AI search demand
  • Up to nine engines including AI Mode, with SSO, API and dedicated support
  • Agents and workflow features for content teams

Profound cons:

  • No self-serve paid plan anymore; AI Mode requires an Enterprise contract
  • Free trial covers only ChatGPT, for 7 days
  • Overkill for small teams

Profound is the enterprise option, and its pricing has changed. Older roundups still quote $99 and $399 self-serve tiers, but the current pricing page shows two plans: a free Trial with 50 prompts run daily for 7 days across ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Overviews, and a custom Enterprise plan for ongoing daily tracking and more answer engines. Enterprise can track ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Mode, Gemini, Microsoft Copilot, DeepSeek, Anthropic Claude, Google AI Overviews and Exa Search.

So AI Mode is Enterprise-only. If you have the budget, Profound’s depth is real: it runs structured prompts across AI platforms, tracking citations, sentiment, ranking and competitive presence, with all-time history, CSV and JSON exports, and an API. Trial users receive a recommended prompt set and cannot customize their prompts, so you can’t evaluate your own AI Mode prompts before signing.

Profound pricing: Free 7-day trial (no AI Mode); Enterprise is custom and sales-led. Both plans include unlimited seats.

Scrunch AI

Scrunch AI pros:

  • AI Mode and AI Overviews included on Starter, alongside ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity and Meta
  • 350 custom prompts plus 1,000 industry prompts on the entry plan
  • AXP serves AI-optimized versions of your pages to visiting agents

Scrunch AI cons:

  • Higher entry price than the dedicated trackers
  • Per-seat model, with only 3 users on Starter
  • Enterprise Data API and SAML SSO are Enterprise-only

Scrunch AI has recently restructured its plans, and the change is good news for AI Mode buyers: the engine list is no longer gated to Enterprise. Coverage across ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity, Google AI Mode and AI Overviews, and Meta is listed as included, with Starter offering 3 user licenses, 350 custom prompts, 1,000 industry prompts, 3 personas and 5 page audits.

Scrunch’s angle is the execution side. Beyond citations tracking, insights and page audits, AXP generates an AI-friendly version of your site for AI-driven experiences, which is useful if your problem is agents failing to parse your pages rather than a lack of mentions. The persona feature is also a nice fit for AI Mode’s conversational style.

Scrunch AI pricing: Starter is $250 per month billed annually or $300 month-to-month; Growth is $417 per month billed annually or $500 month-to-month, and Enterprise is custom. You can add a user seat to any plan for $25/month, and there’s a 7-day free trial of Starter.

A quick word on usage limits

This is where most comparisons go wrong, so here it is in one place.

  • Prompts (Rankshift, Peec, Otterly, Semrush, Scrunch): a tracked question. What you actually pay for is prompts × models × frequency, and Rankshift and Peec both let you see that multiplication before you commit.
  • Credits (Rankshift, Rankscale): consumed per prompt, per model, per run. Weekly scheduling stretches them; enabling nine engines daily does not.
  • Checks (SE Ranking, Ahrefs custom prompts): one prompt on one engine. Divide by the number of engines to get your real prompt capacity.
  • Responses (Rankscale’s “AI responses,” Peec’s “AI answers”): the output count, which is the same thing as credits or checks expressed differently.

A tool advertising “150 prompts” and a tool advertising “1,200 credits” can’t be compared without doing the math for your model mix and schedule.

Which AI Mode tracking tool should you choose?

If you want AI Mode tracked with every other engine, on a flexible schedule, without paying per seat, per project or per model, Rankshift is the tool to start with. The credit model rewards a bit of planning, but it’s the only option here where AI Mode is included at every tier and you keep unlimited users and projects.

Rankscale is the pick if budget is the overriding constraint and you want the widest engine list for the least money. Peec AI makes sense if your priority is citation analysis and you’re happy tracking three engines. Otterly.AI is the cheapest way to get started, as long as you budget for the AI Mode add-on.

If you already pay for Semrush or SE Ranking, their AI layers are the path of least resistance, provided you understand the per-domain and per-check limits. Ahrefs Brand Radar is a research tool, not a monitor, and it doesn’t track your own prompts in AI Mode. Profound and Scrunch are for teams with enterprise budgets or a specific need for content execution features.

FAQs

Does tracking Google AI Overviews mean a tool tracks AI Mode?

No. They’re separate surfaces with different behaviour, and several vendors label them separately in their pricing. Otterly, for example, includes AI Overviews on every plan and charges extra for AI Mode. Always check for the words “AI Mode” specifically.

Why does country targeting matter more for AI Mode than for ChatGPT?

AI Mode is tied to Google Search, and it’s rolling out region by region with region-specific answers. A brand strong in the US AI Mode can be invisible in the Belgian or German version. Otterly, Rankscale and Peec all offer multi-country tracking, though Peec’s Starter is limited to one country.

How many prompts do I need to track AI Mode properly?

AI Mode answers change between runs, so a handful of prompts checked once won’t tell you much. Most teams get useful signal from 50 to 150 prompts split across branded and category queries, tracked daily or weekly over several weeks. That’s why prompt allowances and scheduling control are worth more than a low headline price.
