TL;DR

  • Rankshift is the strongest self-serve MentionLab alternative for teams that want published pricing, unlimited seats and projects, nine AI engines, and built-in content and crawler tools.
  • Peec AI is better suited to teams that prefer simple prompt-based pricing, while Profound targets enterprise buyers needing prompt-volume data and AI marketing workflows.
  • Otterly.AI and Rankscale offer the lowest entry prices, although their limits can become restrictive once you track more prompts, engines, or daily runs.
  • Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit makes the most sense for teams already using Semrush and wanting AI visibility alongside their existing SEO data.
  • MentionLab still stands out for commerce intelligence, product-level tracking, and API-driven analysis, but its unpublished pricing and token-based usage model can make costs harder to predict.

MentionLab is a serious AI visibility platform. It tracks how AI models mention, describe, and recommend brands, and it goes further than most of its peers into shopping and product-level analysis and a REST API for piping the data into your own dashboards. Its logo wall includes brands like Accor, Deloitte, and Toyota, which tells you who it’s built for.

That’s also why it isn’t the right fit for everyone. MentionLab doesn’t publish prices on its website: its pricing URL redirects to the homepage, and the main call to action is booking a demo. Usage is billed in tokens, and its documentation explains that every run consumes queries × AI models × iterations. That’s a methodologically sound approach, but it makes budgeting harder than it looks, especially when the docs recommend several iterations per query. If you want a self-serve tool with a published price, coverage of a different set of AI engines, content tools built in, or AI tracking bundled with your SEO suite, there are good alternatives.

I went through the current pricing pages, plan limits, and documentation for the tools that come up most often when teams compare AI visibility platforms. Here’s where each one fits.

Full disclosure: I’m a co-founder of Rankshift, so it’s listed first. I’ve tried to represent every tool’s strengths and limits accurately, based on their own pricing pages and documentation.

Before you compare: prompts, responses, and credits aren’t the same unit

This is the part that trips most people up, so it’s worth a minute before the individual reviews.

A prompt is one tracked question, like “what’s the best project management tool for agencies?” A response is one answer from one AI model to that prompt on one run. Credits or tokens are whatever currency a vendor uses to meter those responses. So “50 prompts” and “50 credits” describe completely different amounts of tracking.

Two settings multiply your usage:

  • Models. Running one prompt on four engines produces four responses.
  • Frequency. Daily tracking produces roughly 30 runs a month; weekly produces four or five. Tools that allow several runs a week sit in between.

Here’s how that plays out if you want to track 50 prompts on four engines every day:

  • Rankscale: 6,000 responses a month at about 0.25 credits per engine per prompt is roughly 1,500 credits, which is more than the Pro plan’s 1,200. You’d need Growth, or switch some prompts to weekly.
  • Peec AI: 50 prompts fit Starter exactly, but self-serve plans let you pick three of six models. A fourth engine is a paid add-on.
  • Otterly.AI: 50 prompts is past the Lite plan’s 15, so you’re on Standard (100 prompts). The four included engines are ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Perplexity, and Copilot.
  • Semrush: the base plan tracks 25 prompts, so you’d be buying extra prompt capacity from day one.
  • Rankshift: 50 prompts sits well inside Starter’s 150-prompts-per-day ceiling. Credit use depends on which models and how often you run them, so check the numbers in Rankshift’s credit simulator before picking a tier.

None of these approaches is wrong. Prompt-based plans are easier to budget; credit-based plans let you trade breadth for frequency. Just make sure you’re comparing the same unit.

Best Mentionlab alternative for flexible, self-serve AI visibility tracking

Rankshift

Rankshift pros:

  • Unlimited projects and seats on every plan, with published pricing and a 30-day trial that doesn’t need a credit card
  • Tracks nine LLMs, including Copilot and Meta AI, with daily or weekly tracking
  • Recommendations built on your own tracking data, prioritized by expected impact in the Action Center
  • ChatGPT ads tracking on every plan, so you can see which brands appear in sponsored placements inside ChatGPT
  • Content brief generator and AI content writer included from Starter

Rankshift cons:

  • Crawler analytics, Looker Studio, MCP, and API access require the Professional plan or higher
  • Credits take a little calibration before you know exactly what your prompt set costs

Rankshift is an AI visibility platform built by a Belgian team for SEO and content managers, in-house marketing teams, agencies, and enterprise teams. It tracks whether and how AI answers mention your brand, which sources those answers cite, how the sentiment leans, and how you stack up against competitors on visibility and share of voice.

The biggest practical difference from MentionLab is how you buy it. Rankshift publishes three self-serve plans plus Enterprise, priced in EUR, USD, or GBP, and you can start a 30-day trial without a card. You don’t need a sales call to find out whether the tool fits your budget. For a lot of mid-market teams and agencies, that alone is the reason to switch.

The second big difference is how the plans scale. Every Rankshift tier includes unlimited projects and unlimited seats. What changes between plans is the credit allowance and how many prompts you can run per day. That structure matters most for agencies: you can create a workspace for each client and give each client access to their own, without paying per seat or per brand. It’s also useful for in-house teams that want to give stakeholders read access without negotiating licenses.

On model coverage, Rankshift tracks ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Gemini, Google AI Mode, Claude, Copilot, Perplexity, Meta AI, and Mistral. MentionLab’s documented model list covers ChatGPT, Claude Haiku, Gemini, AI Overviews, AI Mode, Perplexity Sonar, DeepSeek, and Mistral Large, with Amazon’s Rufus and Alexa as sales-enabled add-ons. So the two overlap heavily, but if Microsoft Copilot or Meta AI matter to your audience (common in B2B and Microsoft-heavy organizations), Rankshift covers them. If you need DeepSeek or Amazon’s shopping assistant, MentionLab does.

Rankshift also lets you choose how often your prompts run, with daily or weekly tracking. In practice, that means you can run your money prompts daily and park long-tail or research prompts on a weekly schedule, which stretches your credits much further.

Beyond tracking, Rankshift bundles the tools you need to act on the data: citation analytics that show which sources AI trusts in your niche, content opportunities where competitors get cited and you don’t, an Action Center that prioritizes recommended fixes, a content brief generator, and an AI content writer. There’s also ChatGPT ads tracking. From the Professional plan, you add crawler analytics (which shows when bots like GPTBot, ClaudeBot, and PerplexityBot hit your pages), a Looker Studio integration, and MCP and API access for piping the data into your own reporting or AI assistants. If those integrations are the reason you’re looking at Rankshift, treat Professional as your realistic starting point. By comparison, MentionLab’s API is capable but still labeled beta and subject to breaking changes.

Why choose Rankshift over MentionLab: you want transparent, self-serve pricing, unlimited seats and projects, Copilot and Meta AI coverage, and content tools in the same subscription, with crawler analytics and API access available on Professional.

Rankshift pricing: Starter from $82/month billed annually (9,500 credits, up to 150 prompts per day); Professional from $189/month billed annually (22,000 credits, 350 prompts per day, adds crawler analytics, Looker Studio, MCP, and API access); Business from $425/month billed annually (53,000 credits, 850 prompts per day). Monthly billing costs about 10% more. All plans include unlimited projects and seats and all nine LLMs. Enterprise is custom and adds SSO, an SLA, and a dedicated account manager.

Best Mentionlab alternative for predictable, prompt-based plans

Peec AI

Peec AI pros:

  • Simple plans built around a fixed number of tracked prompts
  • Unlimited users on every plan, with MCP integration included

Peec AI cons:

  • Self-serve plans cap you at three of six models; extra engines cost more
  • API access is Enterprise-only, and projects and countries are capped per tier

Peec AI is a Berlin-based AI search analytics tool aimed at marketing teams. If MentionLab feels like a research instrument, Peec feels like a dashboard: you add prompts, pick your engines, and get daily visibility, position, sentiment, and citation data without thinking about credits or tokens.

That simplicity is its main selling point. Plans are priced by the number of tracked prompts, so a 50-prompt plan means 50 prompts, tracked daily. Peec runs its self-serve models through web UI scraping, which aims to capture what a real user sees rather than a clean API response.

The limits are where you need to pay attention. Every self-serve plan lets you choose three of six models (ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews, AI Mode, Gemini, and Copilot), and models like Claude, DeepSeek, and Mistral are reserved for Enterprise. Starter also covers one project and one country per project, while Pro and Advanced cover three countries per project. Looker Studio is on Advanced, and API access is Enterprise-only. Peec also runs separate credit-based agency plans, where one prompt on one model for one day equals one credit.

Why choose it over MentionLab: you want a published price, a clean interface, and fixed prompt limits that are easy to explain to finance.

Peec AI pricing: Starter €85/month billed monthly (50 prompts, 1 project, 1 country, 3 models); Pro €205/month (150 prompts, 2 projects, 3 countries per project); Advanced €425/month (350 prompts, 5 projects, Looker integration). Annual billing drops these to €70, €180, and €360 per month. Enterprise is custom, with unlimited projects and countries and API access. Peec prices regionally, so visitors outside the eurozone may see USD figures.

Best Mentionlab alternative for enterprise AI marketing

Profound

Profound pros:

  • Prompt Volumes data shows what people actually ask AI platforms
  • AI Marketer agents, Agent Analytics, and Shopping in one enterprise platform

Profound cons:

  • No self-serve paid tier for brands: it’s a free one-time trial or a custom Enterprise contract
  • The trial is very limited, so you can’t properly evaluate it without a sales process

Profound is one of the most heavily funded names in this space, and it’s aiming at the same enterprise buyers as MentionLab. It tracks brand visibility, citations, sentiment, and competitive presence across AI platforms, and it adds a few things that are genuinely distinctive: Prompt Volumes (data on what users are prompting AI engines), Agent Analytics for AI crawler traffic and attribution, ChatGPT Shopping visibility, and an “AI Marketer” that runs agents for research, writing, and reporting.

Its pricing has also moved further toward enterprise. Older reviews quote $99 and $399 self-serve brand tiers, but the current pricing page lists only a free Trial (10 prompts, run once, ChatGPT only, no exports or API) and a custom Enterprise plan with daily tracking across up to nine engines, CSV and JSON exports, API access, SSO/SAML, and SOC 2 compliance. Agents run on a separate credit model.

So Profound doesn’t solve MentionLab’s pricing transparency problem. What it offers is depth: if you’re already going through procurement, it’s the other platform that belongs on the shortlist.

Why choose it over MentionLab: you want prompt demand data and agent-driven content workflows alongside monitoring, and you’re comfortable with an enterprise contract.

Profound pricing: Free Trial with 10 prompts run once on ChatGPT; Enterprise pricing is custom. Both include unlimited seats.

Best Mentionlab alternative for a low-cost start

Otterly.AI

Otterly.AI pros:

  • Low, predictable entry price based on a fixed number of prompts
  • Unlimited team members and daily tracking on every plan, plus GEO URL audits

Otterly.AI cons:

  • Gemini, Google AI Mode, and Claude are paid add-ons on every tier
  • Big price jump from 15 prompts to 100 prompts

Otterly.AI is an Austrian AI search monitoring tool and the easiest way to start tracking AI visibility without a sales call or a large commitment. You add your prompts, and it tracks daily brand mentions, cited URLs, sentiment, and competitors across four included engines: ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Perplexity, and Microsoft Copilot.

It also includes an AI prompt research tool, citation and link analysis, and a GEO audit that checks whether your pages are readable by AI crawlers. Standard and Premium add a Looker Studio connector, API requests, and MCP requests.

The catch is that the headline price isn’t the price of full coverage. Gemini, AI Mode, and Claude cost extra on every tier, and the add-on price scales with your plan. There’s also nothing between 15 and 100 prompts, so the moment you outgrow Lite, your bill jumps significantly.

Why choose it over MentionLab: you’re a small team that wants to start monitoring a focused prompt set this week, for under €30 a month.

Otterly.AI pricing: Lite €29/month billed monthly (15 prompts, 1 workspace, 4 engines); Standard €189/month (100 prompts, unlimited workspaces, API and MCP); Premium €489/month (400 prompts). Annual billing saves 15%. Extra prompts on Standard and Premium cost €99/month per 100. Otterly also lists prices in USD at the same figures.

A note on the Lite plan: 15 prompts is a small sample. AI answers vary from run to run and from one phrasing to the next, so a handful of prompts can’t reliably represent how AI engines treat your brand, your category, and your competitors. One review estimates most brands need 30 to 100 prompts to cover the questions buyers actually ask. Treat Lite as a way to test the tool rather than a basis for decisions about your market.

Best Mentionlab alternative for maximum engine coverage on a budget

Rankscale

Rankscale pros:

  • All 10 engines on every plan, including DeepSeek, Grok, and Mistral
  • Unlimited search terms and all regions; credits roll over on Pro and above

Rankscale cons:

  • 120 credits on Essentials doesn’t go far with daily multi-engine tracking
  • When credits run out, tracking stops until renewal or an upgrade

Rankscale is a German AI visibility tool that feels closest to a classic SEO rank tracker. It’s credit-based, like MentionLab, but the math is published: each AI engine query costs a fraction of a credit, typically 0.25 per engine per prompt, and each plan shows how many AI responses its credits cover.

Every plan includes the full engine list: ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Mode, AI Overviews, Gemini, DeepSeek, Mistral, Claude, Grok, and Copilot. That’s the broadest coverage at this price point, and it’s the only self-serve tool here that matches MentionLab on DeepSeek while also covering Copilot and Grok.

The trade-off is that you need to manage the meter. Rankscale’s help docs confirm that search terms stop executing when credits run out, and that Essentials credits expire monthly, while Pro credits roll over up to 2x and Growth and Enterprise up to 3x. White-label options and REST API access start on Growth.

Why choose it over MentionLab: you want broad engine coverage with published, per-response pricing and a very low entry point.

Rankscale pricing: Essentials €20/month billed monthly (120 credits, up to 480 AI responses, 2 brand dashboards); Pro €99/month (1,200 credits, up to 4,800 responses, 10 dashboards); Growth €385/month (5,500 credits, up to 22,000 responses, 50 dashboards, white-label and API); Enterprise €780/month (12,000 credits, up to 48,000 responses). Annual billing saves 15%. The USD pricing page shows the same figures in dollars.

A note on the Essentials plan: 480 AI responses a month is a small sample once you do the math. Tracking daily on four engines, that covers only four prompts. Switch to weekly and you can stretch it to roughly 28 prompts, but with far fewer data points per prompt. Either way, it’s not enough to get a reliable view of how AI engines treat your brand and competitors across your market, and Essentials credits expire at the end of each month rather than rolling over. Treat it as a way to try the tool before moving to Pro or higher.

Best Mentionlab alternative for Semrush users

Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit

Semrush pros:

  • AI visibility data sits next to your existing keyword, backlink, and audit data
  • Prompt research with topic-level volume and intent, drawn from a large prompt database

Semrush cons:

  • Only 25 prompts on the base plan, and pricing is per domain
  • Covers fewer AI surfaces than the dedicated tools

The Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit adds AI search tracking to the Semrush platform. You get a visibility overview, competitor research, prompt research, brand performance (share of voice, sentiment, and narratives), daily prompt tracking, and an AI search site audit that flags issues like blocked AI crawlers.

For teams that already run SEO in Semrush, that integration is the whole argument. You don’t need another login, and you can connect AI visibility to the keyword and content data you’re already using. The downside is scale: the base plan tracks 25 prompts on one domain across ChatGPT, Google AI, Gemini, and Perplexity, and each extra domain costs another $99. Agencies with many clients will find that adds up quickly.

Why choose it over MentionLab: you’re already paying for Semrush and want a “good enough” AI visibility layer without a separate vendor.

Semrush pricing: AI Visibility Toolkit from $99/month per domain (25 prompts, 1 domain, daily tracking). Reviews disagree on whether that rate requires annual billing, so confirm at checkout. Semrush One, which bundles the SEO and AI Visibility toolkits, starts at $199/month.

Which Mentionlab alternative should you choose?

It depends on why you’re leaving (or not signing up for) MentionLab in the first place.

  • You want published pricing, unlimited seats and projects, and tools to act on the data: go with Rankshift. It’s the most flexible self-serve option here, and it’s particularly strong for agencies and teams running multiple brands or markets.
  • You want the simplest possible pricing model: Peec AI gives you fixed prompt counts, as long as three models per plan is enough.
  • You’re an enterprise buying through procurement: put Profound on the shortlist next to MentionLab.
  • You’re testing the waters on a small budget: Otterly.AI or Rankscale get you started for €20 to €29 a month. Pick Rankscale if engine breadth matters more than predictability.
  • You live in Semrush already: the AI Visibility Toolkit is the path of least resistance.

And if shopping and SKU-level commerce data are central to what you need, MentionLab itself may still be the right answer. Its commerce intelligence is one of its genuine strengths.
